Money, Money, Money

by camcb4

Every single day, I take a cab to and from the office. When I feel like it, I engage the cab driver in story telling. How they love to tell other people about their lives! And with so much passion even! This one is no exception.

He used to work for a company that sold pig and chicken feed. One day, the company announced that due to lack of finances, he and some of his colleagues had to be let go. He received a pretty good separation pay from the company and he intended to start a small business with it. Unfortunately, his wife’s family found out about his financial windfall and asked to borrow it. He lent them the money out of goodwill. When the time of great need came, he asked his parents-in-law to pay him back. To his surprise and shock, they got angry with him and started saying bad things about him. He needed his money badly so he wanted to fight them for it. His wife begged him not to because of what they had done to her sister’s husband. It was the same argument – over a loan that was not paid back. The husband fought back and was beaten to a pulp by the father-in-law and his sons.

The cab driver decided the money was not worth his life, nor his marriage. He packed his bags and left his wife.
